Wildflower of the Month/July-Queen of the Prairie

The Queen of the Prairie (Filipendula rubra) is a fragrant wildflower of moist meadows. The flowerheads are 5-6 feet tall. This plant is threatened or endangered over most of its native range. This image was taken near Glady Fork in Randolph County,WV. Look for these rare beauties in June and July.
